CLINTON, Iowa - The Clinton LumberKings (13-8) lost against the Lafayette Aviators (12-9) 4-0 at NelsonCorp Field on Saturday night.
Joey Humphrey got the scoring started for the Aviators with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
The LumberKings would score in the bottom of the second on a RBI double by Tate Gillen followed by a fly out to center field as Gillen would score on a throwing error by the center fielder to take a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the sixth the Aviators would tie the game 2-2 on a Brandon Daniels RBI double. After either team was unable to score between the bottom of the sixth and eighth innings, the Aviators would start a bombardment of runs in the top of the ninth inning.
A run would score for the Aviators on an error, followed by two runs scoring on two separate passed balls in two different at bats.
Charles Lefebvre would earn his second win of the season, throwing two innings of work allowing two walks and two strikeouts without allowing a hit or run. Zach Zaborowski would earn his seventh save of the season going one inning allowing just one hit, no runs, walks and striking out one batter.
Jimmy Burke, Clinton's starter, threw a quality start allowing five hits, two runs, both earned, two walks and two strikeouts. Jared Simpson would take the loss throwing in the last two innings of the game allowing no hits, three runs, all unearned, three walks, and striking out four batters.
The Clinton LumberKings welcome the Quincy Gems to NelsonCorp Field on Sunday afternoon with first pitch at 2 p.m. and the gates opening at 1 p.m.
