Bandits Add Korean Prospects Ryu and Hong to Roster

BRISBANE, Australia - The Brisbane Bandits are thrilled to continue our international partnership with the Samsung Lions, one of South Korea’s most successful professional baseball clubs. Now in its second year, this collaboration builds on the strong foundations established last season and continues to bring world-class talent and expertise to Brisbane.

The Brisbane Bandits have strengthened their roster with the signings of outfielder Seung-Min Ryu and right-handed pitcher Seung-Won Hong, adding two players developed within the Samsung Lions organization of the KBO.

Ryu joins Brisbane as a young, athletic outfielder who came through Samsung’s player development system. Drafted by the Lions in the seventh round of the 2023 KBO Draft, the left-handed hitter made his professional debut during the 2024 season, gaining experience at the top level in limited appearances. He also made his KBO rookie debut in the 2023 season. Known for his versatility and defensive ability, Ryu adds depth to the Bandits’ outfield while continuing his development against ABL competition.

Hong bolsters the Bandits’ pitching staff after being selected by Samsung in the sixth round of the 2021 KBO Draft. The right-hander has spent time developing within the Lions’ system, giving him a professional foundation as he transitions to the ABL. Hong provides additional pitching depth for Brisbane as the club manages workloads and matchups through the remainder of the season.

Ryo and Hong also finished their 18-month-long military service on September 12, after playing for the Sangmu Phoenix, part of the Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps Baseball Club. Both players bring experience from one of Korea’s most established baseball organizations and represent the Bandits’ continued commitment to integrating international talent into the roster. Ryu and Hong are expected to join the team immediately as Brisbane prepares for the upcoming series.

With the entrance of Ryu and Hong, the Brisbane Bandits want to thank Seung-Hyun Lee and Soo-Ho Ham for their contributions this season as their time in the ABL comes to an end. Ham finished his season with a .208 batting average, five RBI, three home runs, and nine runs through 10 total hits. Lee, through 6 appearances, started one game and pitched in 10 and one-third innings, striking out 14 batters. We wish Lee and Ham the best in their careers and send our deep appreciation to two talented ballplayers from the Samsung Lions who continue to form strong bonds between the two organizations.
