THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 9, 2021
Welcome Back to the Edina Realty Pregame Lineup Card, it’s time for a Twins Play Ball Minnesota Update:
The Chanhassen Red Birds had been a part of Town Ball from 1940s to the 50s, but then took a 45-year hiatus before returning in 2010. What a return it has been, as the Red Birds just captured their fourth consecutive class B state championship this past weekend. This four-peat has only happened once before in the 98 years of the Minnesota Baseball Association. Red Birds Player-manager Brandon Arnold says they are very proud of what they have accomplished for the town of Chanhassen and the history of Town Ball.
Former minor leaguer and St. Paul Saint, John Straka, won his third consecutive state tournament MVP. Straka went 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 25 innings.
This year’s final featured the Miesville Mudhens, who won back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017. The Mudhends took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 5th, but the Red Birds responded with a big at-bat from Zach Hoffmann.
The Red Birds never looked back and finished the scoring in the 8th with three more runs before clinching the championship.
And Straka knows how special this title run has been…
Air Freight Unlimited won its first championship in Class A, defeating the Highland Park Beavers 12-1. In class C, the Sobieski Skis took home their second title, defeating the Watertown Red Devils 3-0 in 11 innings.
This Saturday, there will be a pre-game ceremony here at Target Field to honor Town Ball and the 2021 champions..., including an unveiling of state champion team photos at the Town Ball Tavern.
This has been a Twins Play Ball Minnesota Update, we will get an update from Cleveland on tonight’s series finale. That’s here on your home for Twins baseball.
