PERU, Illinois - The Clinton LumberKings (6-4) defeated the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (2-6) 5-2 at Schweickert Stadium on Saturday night.
Clinton's starter Logan Schmitt had a quality start as well as earning the win. He allowed two hits, no runs, two walks and struck out five batters in his five innings of work.
Jai Jensen and Tyler Stern would come out of the bull pen and pitch two innings each to close out the game. Stern would earn the save allowing one hit one run, earned, four walks and one strike out.
The LumberKings would score all five runs unanswered into the seventh inning. In the top of the fourth an RBI double by Parker Shupe would score the first run for the 'Kings giving them a 0-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth Trevor Burkhart hit an RBI single to centerfield, followed by an RBI sac fly by Gavin Brzozowski and an RBI single by Casen Neumann.
In the top of the seventh inning Burkhart would steal home to earn the third run of the inning to put the LumberKings up 5-0.
The Pistol Shrimp would manage two runs at the end of the game in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings on two separate RBI groundouts.
The LumberKings return home with a 3-1 record on the road trip winning at least one game in each ballpark they visited and hold sole possession of first place in the Great River division.
The LumberKings return home to begin a 4-game home stand. They will host the Burlington Bees for a 2-game series followed by the Danville Dans.
Game one between the Bees and LumberKings starts Sunday, with multiple promotions like Family Funday Sunday, Copa Day and Bark at the Park. First pitch at 2 p.m. with the gates of NelsonCorp Field opening at 1 p.m.
