LumberKings Extra Innings Come Back Falls Short

O'FALLON, Missouri - The Clinton LumberKings (5-4) lost to the O'Fallon Hoots (2-6) 10-9 in extra innings at CarShield Field on Friday night.

The O'Fallon Hoots scored first after two scoreless innings from both teams. Tyson Ludwig put the Hoots on the board with an RBI single to give them an 1-0 lead. This would be the first time the LumberKings would be unable to score in the first three innings of a ball game this year.

The LumberKings would take a 2-1 lead after a steal of home by Trevor Burkhart and an error by O'Fallon's shortstop in the top of the fourth inning.

The O'Fallon Hoots would respond in the fifth innings with four runs on an RBI double by Ludwig, an RBI single by John Stallcup, a hit-by-pitch RBI by Michael Long and a RBI fielder's choice by Zach Beatty to take a 5-2 lead.

Clinton would chop away at the lead in the sixth and seventh innings. Brandon Vlcko would get an RBI fielder's choice in the sixth and Gavin Brzozowski would score on a RBI groundout to narrow the lead 5-4.

The Hoots would respond and extend their lead by one in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Maloy Heaghney RBI double down the right field line to make it 6-4.

The LumberKings were down to their final three outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and managed to tie the game down by two. Alex Diaz would get the comeback started with an RBI single to left followed by a RBI single to center by Brock Wollin.

Clinton would take the game into extras after shutting down the Hoots in the bottom of the ninth and then take the lead in the top of the tenth. The 'Kings scores on a passed ball and a wild pitch that struck the home plate umpire to take a 8-6 lead.

O'Fallon tied the game again in the bottom of the tenth with an RBI single to right field by Beatty. Beatty would score the tying run on a passed ball.

In the top of the 11th the LumberKings would take the lead again on a Max Holy RBI single to take an 9-8 lead.

Clinton unfortunately would need more than just the one run as the Hoots would tie the game on a hit by pitch RBI with the bases loaded. Mike O'Conner who entered into the game late, would be the hero and walk off the game for the Hoots with a bases loaded single to left field and give the Hoots their second win of the season.

The LumberKings road trip ends tomorrow after a one-game series against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp in Peru, IL. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
