Perry Secures 1st ABL Win, Power Surge Lead Bandits to 11-0 Shutout of Heat

PERTH, Australia — Kamdyn Perry allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings and the Brisbane Bandits backed him with three home runs in an 11-0 shutout of the Perth Heat and his first ABL career win on Friday night at NSR Hire Ballpark.

The Bandits scored in five different innings and broke the game open with a six-run fifth, cruising to their second straight win while holding the Heat to 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Perry (1-2) worked around three walks, struck out two and did not allow a run in his most efficient outing of the season. Brisbane’s bullpen finished the shutout as Hayate Nakagawa, Brandon Herbold and Sam Holland combined to allow three hits over the final three innings with seven strikeouts overall.

Brisbane struck first in the second inning when Dermot Fritsch launched a two-run homer to left field, his second homer of the year, scoring Liam MacDonald. The Bandits added two more in the third as Rixon Wingrove homered to center, bringing home Will Riley for a 4-0 lead.

The decisive blow came in the fifth. Seung-Min Ryu ripped a two-run double to center to score Riley and Wingrove, and moments later, MacDonald followed with a two-run single to right to make it 8-0. George Callil capped the inning with a two-run homer to left, extending the lead to 10-0.

Brisbane added its final run in the seventh when Max Durrington drew a bases-loaded walk, forcing in Kyosuke Mashiko.

The Bandits finished with 15 hits, led by Callil, who went 3 for 5 with a homer and two RBIs, and Ryu, who had three hits and drove in two. Robbie Perkins collected three hits, while Wingrove and Fritsch each homered and drove in two runs.

Perth starter Jake Bowey (1-3) was tagged for five runs on seven hits over four and one-thirds innings. The Heat managed just five hits on the night, with singles from Nicandro Aybar, Alex Hall, Jess Williams and Yirer Garcia, and a double from Bowey.

The Bandits will play a doubleheader tomorrow – looking for a sweep to record their first series victory, and wrap up the sixth round of the season with the first game starting at 6 p.m. and game two set for 9 p.m.
