CLINTON, Iowa - The Prospect League released all 18 organizations' 2024 Season Schedules on January 4, 2024. The LumberKings schedule features a new division name and opponent in its 60-game season.
The Prospect League selected May 28, 2024, as the league's Opening Day. The LumberKings will start their season at NelsonCorp Field against their former minor league rivals, the Burlington Bees. 6:30 pm is the scheduled start time.
The formerly named Great River Division, where the LumberKings sit in the Western Conference, is now re-branded as the Northwest Division. This re-brand is also taking place amongst all divisions. The Ohio River Valley Division is the Northeast Division, the Wabash River Division is the Central Division, and the Prairie Land Division is the South Division.
The LumberKings' new division also adds a new team as the Quincy Gems sold their membership to one of the two new Prospect League members, the Full Count Rhythm. (The West Virginia Miners sold to the Dubois County Bombers). The Springfield Lucky Horseshoes, formerly in the Wabash Division, join the Northwest Division in place of Quincy and will play the Kings eight times, opposed from just one game last year, through the 2024 season and split meetings equally between NelsonCorp Field and Robin Roberts Stadium. Clinton will play Springfield on May 29 at Robin Roberts Stadium for their first road game of the 2024 season and on June 5, 8, and July 2. Springfield travels to Clinton on May 30, June 11, 17, and July 21.
The LumberKings will play conference games against three of the five South Division teams. The Alton River Dragons return to Clinton for a two-game weekend series on July 13 and 14. The Kings travel to Alton on two separate occasions - June 2 and July 18. The Cape Catfish, who started the 2023 season with a historic 12-game win streak, will play the LumberKings in one two-game home series set for June 21 and 22 for the first time since the 2022 season. The first meeting against the O'Fallon Hoots will be one of two double-headers Clinton will have this season before a final trip to O'Fallon in July - June 6 (DH) and July 19. The Hoots return to NelsonCorp Field for a two-game weekend series - June 29 and 30.
Of the nine Eastern Conference teams, the LumberKings will play against the Lafayette Aviators and Chillicothe Paints in the Northeast Division and the Normal CornBelters of the Central Division. Lafayette will play a two-game series in Clinton - June 13 and 14. Clinton will travel to Loeb Stadium for a two-game road series - June 23 and 24. The LumberKings will host the 2023 Prospect League Champion Chillicothe Paints at NelsonCorp Field for the first time since joining the league - July 26 and 27. The Normal CornBelters were Clinton's 2023 opening night game. Now Normal will have to wait a while before the LumberKings welcome them back to NelsonCorp Field - June 27, July 1, 11, and 15. The CornBelters are the second team hosting the Kings for a double-header. Clinton will travel to Normal for two games in July - June 28 (DH), July 9 and 25.
The LumberKings will also play familiar foes in the Burlington Bees and Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp. The Bees and Kings will play 13 games, seven in Burlington and six in Clinton. As is tradition, since joining the Prospect League in 2021, the Bees will host the LumberKings July 3, and Clinton will host Burlington on Independence Day. The Pistol Shrimp and Kings will play 12 games, seven in Peru, Illinois, and five in Clinton.
The LumberKings promo schedule will come out later in the year as Opening Day approaches.
